Body Positive Goals in 2023

At Absolute Pilates, we encourage our clients to NOT set weight loss as a goal or resolution because it not only tends to be too generic, but it can also lead to an unhealthy body image. Further, weight loss alone tends to encourage calorie deprivation and over-exercising with cardio... neither of which properly fuel or support your metabolism for losing body fat.

Moreover, the scale is an inferior way to measure success... things like your menstrual cycle, hormonal factors, the time of day, elimination, and how much muscle you already have can all drastically change the numbers on a scale.

Instead, at Absolute Pilates, we like to measure success based on non-scale victories like inches lost, before & after photos, how clothes fit, how you move and how you feel.

So how can you set goals and resolutions that are specific and body positive?

  1. Define your WHY- Name and understand WHY you're doing this. Make it very personal to you. It could be to have the energy to keep up with kids or grandkids. Or you might have a genetic health condition in your family and you want to live a longer life. Maybe you have put yourself so far down your own priory list that you don’t even recognize yourself anymore. There are hundreds of reasons to put health and wellness first but it means nothing if it isn’t meaningful to YOU.

  2. Define what your body CAN do- We are so quick to see all the flaws and hold ourselves to unrealistic standards. Why wouldn’t we… our culture is bombarded with overly filtered images and an obsession with youth and unobtainable bodies. But that narrative can stop when you decide to flip the script. Start to be grateful for your amazing body and all the things it can do and all the ways it serves you well. When you start to love your body you will also want to honor it by feeding and moving it well.

  3. Define the Goal and ACCEPT the process- Once you have done those two things, you can create a realistic and sustainable goal. Then tell yourself that the goal is the process. That is how you will get there. Defining a path from point A to point B is the goal! Framing it that way will allow you the time and room you need to be successful.

AT Absolute Pilates, we have your path planned for you. We know the process. We have the science to back it up and the accountability to keep you on track. You just have to take the first step and sign up….
